From pristine beaches to colourful sunsets, Kangaroo Island is truly a dreamy destination.

Whether you’re visiting Kangaroo Island on a day trip or you’re there for an extended period of time, don’t miss out on the island’s spectacular sunsets. From famous landmarks to hidden gems, here are the top five spots to watch the sunset on Kangaroo Island!

  1. Remarkable Rocks in Flinders Chase National Park

One of the most epic spots to view the sunset on Kangaroo Island is at Flinders Chase National Park. This national park already offers stunning scenery, but just wait until it’s illuminated by the dazzling sunset.

One of the best spots to view the sunset in this national park is at the Remarkable Rocks. You will probably recognise the gigantic boulders from photos you may have seen of Kangaroo Island. The rocks are located atop a cliff, making for the perfect lookout point. As the sun begins to set, you’ll notice that the orange hues of the rocks become even more enhanced.

  1. Flagstaff Hill Lookout at Reeves Point

Flagstaff Hill Lookout offers panoramic views of the jetty, the nearby town and North Cape. Before sunset, you may want to take a stroll along the beach area or check out the charming town of Kingscote.

You can get to this lookout by car, or you can follow the hiking path to the top of the hill. Be sure to bring your camera for this picture-perfect sunset viewing destination!

  1. Pennington Bay

Depending on the time of year that you visit Pennington Bay, you will have differing experiences. During the summer, there will be heaps of people swimming and surfing at this stunning beach. During the winter months, fewer people visit this beach.

Regardless of the time of year, this is a fantastic location to take in the colourful sunset.

  1. Stokes Bay

Located on the west coast of Kangaroo Island is Stokes Bay. To access this secluded area, you’ll follow a pathway through a rocky tunnel, which will lead to the beach. Once you arrive at the beach, you’re in for an incredible sunset. This is a lesser-known area, which means that you may have the beach to yourself for sunset.

It’s important to remember to bring a torch with you so that you can make your way back up the trail!

  1. Red Banks viewpoint Red Banks Beach

Red Banks Beach is one of Kangaroo Island’s hidden gems. Bored by calming ocean waves and colourful red cliffs, this beach is not to be missed. Since this spot is a hidden gem, there aren’t typically many people here. That means you will probably have the beach to yourself for sunset.

It’s best to watch the sunset from the cliff tops so that you can take in panoramic views of your surroundings. As the sun begins to set along the horizon, the red cliffs will become illuminated in deep shades of reds and earth tones.

If you’re spending the night on Kangaroo Island, don’t miss your chance to check out these iconic sunset spots!
