Unleash your inner child! Why you should go sandboarding on Kangaroo Island

Sandboarding is like snowboarding…on sand! Here’s why sandboarding is a unique activity that you should do when you’re on Kangaroo Island.

The dunes of Kangaroo Island are located next to Vivonne Beach. These incredible dunes are over 7000 years old and have formed due to weathering. This has formed an exciting natural playground for kids and adults alike! The dunes are always changing shape, too, which means the sand runs will always be slightly different as the weather affects them!

Sandboarding is when you go downwards on a sandboard! You can rent a sandboard; you simply stand on the board and balance as you navigate the dunes. The dunes sit high above sea level, so you’ll gain some elevation. Remember – the higher up you go, the further you have to come down!

Here’s why you should go sandboarding!

Adrenaline pumping

Sand dunes

If you’ve ever been snowboarding or skiing, you’ll know the thrill of balancing yourself as you accelerate fast downhill. Sandboarding is similar – it’s just the South Australian version!

Catch great photos

Take action shots of your friends and family as they zoom down the dunes. You’ll be able to get some cool sand action shots that can go straight on your Instagram Feed.

Learn a new hobby

Unless you live on Kangaroo Island or near the desert, the chances are you won’t find many places to be sandboarding! Add it as a new experience to help boost your hobbies!

Give sandboarding a try!

If you’re seeking a unique adventure, don’t miss out on sandboarding on Kangaroo Island—it’s an experience you won’t forget!

Don’t want to go sandboarding? Try tobogganing, the less risky version of sandboarding! You can go tobogganing by lying down on a board and going headfirst. Tobogganing is a bit slower than sandboarding because you’ll get higher control over how fast you travel down the slopes.

Where can I rent a sandboard?

Head over to the Little Sahara Adventure Centre. They offer sandboards and toboggans for hire. You can rent one for $37 an hour, and you’ll get the second hour for free.

For added safety, wear a helmet and protective equipment.
