The Fleurieu Peninsula is located on the coast of South Australia, south of Adelaide. There are many reasons to visit this charming peninsula, but here are five of the best things to do on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

1. Enjoy wine tastings at McLaren Vale

McLaren Vale is one of the oldest wine regions in Australia, with many wineries and vineyards to visit. It is truly a wine lover’s paradise. In addition to the spectacular wines that are produced in this region, McLaren Vale is also known for its delicious food. As you make your way from vineyard to vineyard, be sure to refuel at some of the best restaurants in the area!

2. Explore the charming town of Victor Harbour

Victor Harbour is a charming coastal town located on the Fleurieu Peninsula. The coastal charm is complete with stunning views and sandy beaches for relaxing. You’ll also find some magnificent early colonial architecture and a range of delicious eateries.

One of the most unique experiences in Victor Harbour is the historic horse-drawn tram. This fun experience takes you across a long bridge that links Victor Harbour to the nearby Granite Island.

3. Take a dip at Second Valley Beach

One of the most Instagrammable locations in South Australia is Second Valley Beach. This beach is full of stunning coastal views accompanied by unique geological formations. Many people visit this beach to take a refreshing swim, go fishing off the jetty, or snorkel amongst the marine life.

4. Keep an eye out for whales

The best whale-watching months on the Fleurieu Peninsula are May to October. During these months, there are a number of lookouts that are popular for whale spotting. Check out the cliffs at The Bluff, Basham Beach, Encounter Bay, and Port Elliot’s Frenchman’s Lookout. The main types of whales visible from the shore are Humpback Whales and Southern Right Whales.

5. Catch a ferry to Kangaroo Island

If you are visiting Kangaroo Island from the mainland of Australia, there is a high likelihood that you are catching a ferry from Cape Jervis on the Fleurieu Peninsula. The ferry ride only takes about 45 minutes and then you will arrive on the scenic Kangaroo Island. From here, there is plenty to see including Flinders Chase National Park, the local seal colony, and much more.
