Kangaroo Island encapsulates the expression “natural paradise”. From its sublime beaches to its rugged national parks, its abundant wildlife to its bizarre landmarks, Kangaroo Island is the ideal place to experience Australia’s wonders all rolled into one!
From Flinders Chase to Vivonne Bay, to the world famous Wildlife Park, you could easily spend a week or two on this gorgeous island, taking in all of its miraculous beauty and wonder.
So, let’s take a look at some of the joys that make Kangaroo Island so ridiculously special to Aussies and travellers alike:
Vivonne Bay
Many people don’t know this, or they flat out refuse to believe it, but southern Australia is home to some pretty incredible beaches, too! And perhaps none are more impressive than the pristine Vivonne Bay, a gorgeous stretch of white sand, turquoise waters and a fair few cheeky seals frolicking around to top it off.
Just around the bend is Little Sahara, where you can really get your adrenaline pumping with a spot of sand tobogganing, as well as the super awesome Seal Bay Conservation Park, where Australia’s third largest fur seal colony hangs out and enjoys a little sun, sand and water…
Flinders Chase National Park
We’re just throwing it out there: alongside Kakadu, Flinders Chase National Park has to be one of Australia’s most magnificent. With its rugged tracks and stunning coastline as well as a plentiful number of kangaroos, koalas, echidnas, eagles and more, the park is a simple joy to behold!
What’s more, it’s home to the incredible natural formations of the Admirals Arch and the Remarkable Rocks, a series of bizarrely stacked boulders that look more suitable for a Dali painting than a southern Oz national park.
The Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park
Despite its massive wildlife population, Kangaroo Island took a disastrous hit in the shocking 2019, 2020 bushfires. The island is one the comeback and hopefully too its wildlife species, and you can find many of these wonderful creatures at the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park.
The park is dedicated to rescuing and housing plenty of the wonderful animals that call Kangaroo Island home and you can enjoy a raft of amazing activities with them including koala meets, dingo presentations, penguin feeding and more!
As you can see, Kangaroo Island is a pretty special place, and that’s why you should definitely consider it for your next Aussie vacay.
